It Begins Again

Today was the first day of school. It went pretty well. My classroom is much more organized than last year. Here are some pictures.

Coastal Road Trip Day 7

We took over 300 pictures in the Redwoods. They were more beautiful than I expected. Most of these pictures don't require any explanation. Next time, I would like to spend more time in the Redwoods and camp

Inside a redwood.

Coastal Road Trip Day 6

This was mostly a driving day. We drove from San Francisco to Eureka. Eureka was disgusting and I never want to go there again. But, the old mansions built by logging giants of the 1800s were really cool.

Coastal Road Trip Day 4 and 5

These pictures are in the wrong order. We crossed the Golden Gate Bridge.
We saw Wicked...
at the Orpheum.
The sea lions at the pier.
The real sea lions.
Chinatown was great.
I love shopping for cheap jewelry.

The Golden Gate Bridge again. San Francisco fog was pretty incredible.
Waiting for the street cars. I'm glad I rode them once, but they really aren't worth it.
We had ice cream and chocolate at the Ghiradelli factory.
Cable car turn around.
We were entertained while waiting for the cable cars by a guy playing a banjo and wearing a ridiculous hat.
An advertisement for a museum.
Dungeness crab. I had 2 of these on my trip. So good.

Our first seafood dinner. We overlooked the marina and all of us had crab. It was so energy consuming to eat that we hardly said anything the whole meal.
At the restaurant at Fisherman's Wharf.
The rest of the pictures were taken at Alcatraz. It was really interesting. I don't know why but I am really fascinated by prisons. This one was really cool. I'm glad I don't commit crimes. This fire hydrant was on Alcatraz.
A sign near the dock.
It was so windy the day that we were on Alcatraz. This picture was taken in the recreation yard and the gulls were trying to hold on to the wall.
In the rec yard. Alcatraz has an awesome audio presentation narrated by people who worked at Alcatraz as well as some of the convicts.
This was one of the cells. People had a bed, a small table, a toilet, and a sink.
Al Capone and Machine Gun Kelly were really famous convicts. Al Capone was responsible for hundreds of murders but he went to jail for tax evasion. Ridiculous.
This was taken in the solitary confinement cell. When all of the doors were shut, it was pitch black in there.
This cell had a few more than the basic items.
They had this knife rack in the kitchen with silhouettes. This was so when the knifes were hung up at the end of the day, they could easily tell if any were missing.
Bad picture but this is outside the cell house. If I remember correctly, when the 3 guys escaped, they shimmied down the pipe in the corner.
All of the gulls had brand new babies with them. They were adorable.

The ship that makes a lot of money bringing people to Alcatraz.
The island with the cell house.
A distant shot of Alcatraz.
